Wilco - Tiny Desk Concert (NPR)
Wilco - 10/8 - The Fox Theatre

Wilco leapt from the grave of Uncle Tupelo, the Illinois roots outfit that almost single-handedly wrote the New Testament of alt-country. Like his former Uncle Tupelo partner Jay Farrar, Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy was smitten with Gram Parsons, Doug Sahm, Roger McGuinn, and other icons of hippie twang. But unlike Farrar, Tweedy had a yen to broaden his music's stylistic reach, and with Wilco, he's incorporated everything from Beach Boys harmonies to kraut rock rhythms to postpunk distortion flares. The band has now asserted themselves as one of Alternative/Indie's most important bands.

Fueled by "rejection, food, coffee, girls, fishing and food," the Descendents sprang up during the halcyon days of the Los Angeles punk scene; fusing the blind rage of hardcore with an unexpectedly wry, self-deprecating wit and a strong melodic sensibility that set them distinctly apart from their West Coast brethren, they gradually emerged as one of the most enduring and adored bands of their time.

LCD Soundsystem - tonite
LCD Soundsystem - 10/22 - The Roxy Theatre

LCD Soundsystem debuted with "Losing My Edge," a single that became one of the most talked-about indie releases of 2002. A self-effacing spoof of the outrageous pissing contests that often occur whenever music geeks cross paths laid over a puttering electronic beat with the occasional bursts of discoid clatter, the track was also one of the first released on the DFA label. Several magazines and newspapers would eventually declare James Murphy, the man behind both LCD Soundsystem and DFA, to be one of the coolest people on the planet. Don't miss these shows, they are bound to be the most fun you have ever had at a show.

Benjamin Booker - Witness
Benjamin Booker - 10/25 - The Loft

Part of a new breed of bluesmen, New Orleans-based guitarist Benjamin Booker draws equally from post war electric blues and trashy garage punk. This much was evident from his eponymous debut, released on ATO Records in August of 2014. He recorded the effort with producer Andrija Tokic, who helmed the debut by kindred spirits and labelmates Alabama Shakes. He followed its release with touring in 2014, which included a Lead Belly jam session with Jack White that seemed a bit like a passing of the torch.

HUM – You'd Prefer An Astronaut
Hum - 10/27 - Masquerade

Endless feedback, a heavenly drone, and an obsession with science and outer space: these three elements perhaps most define the beautiful style that has become the trademark of the unmatchable Hum. Despite a career marked with slight commercial successes, most obviously their 1996 radio hit "Stars," Hum have never quite been given the full attention and emphasis that they deserve. The band is currently out on a very short reunion tour, Atlanta is the only stop.

Death From Above 1979 - 10/30 - Masquerade

DFA are known for their severely overdriven rush of punk, hard rock, and dance music influences held together with high volume. So loud in fact that they caught the ears of bands like Nine Inch Nails and Queens of the Stone Age who took the bands out in their early career and helped their effort to make their brand of sweaty, shirtless noise reach as many people as possible.
